JBG Intranet web design

UX / UI Design for Glasgow's Employment and Business promotion agency

Jobs and Business Glasgow wanted to develop a secure intranet for their staff to facilitate information management and internal communications. The main aspiration for the intranet was for it to be an invaluable tool for staff that would be seen as an integral part of their daily workflow.

One of the challenges of the project was to ensure that a wide variety of data could be easily recorded and stored against members of staff including location, contact details, projects and other profile information while being fully searchable. This included the requirement for users to be able to search for offices, projects and documents. This provided an interesting information architecture challenge – to organise and tag the data in such a way that made the site as usable and intuitive as possible.

The team carried out an extensive information architecture review with the client to establish the structure and ensure we used an intuitive taxonomy system so that information was as findable as possible.

As the intranet would be used on a daily basis, as an integral part of staff’s working day, it was crucial that the website was highly usable and there were clear signposts throughout the site to the content most frequently accessed. I adopted an iterative approach to the design, presenting visuals and gathering feedback to test assumptions before advancing to the next stage. The result is a user interface that is very much designed with the user in mind.

This is a unique website which will require a more modern browser to work!
